Life Story
Edward Wilford Pillsbury was born February 24th 1928 to James Edward Pillsbury and Caroline "Carrie" (nee Graf) in Ithica Wisconsin. He was one of 18 children, having lived in various places throughout Wisconsin & Huron SD He worked as a farm hand until he joined the United States Army in 1945. He served in both the Infantry and Heavy Artillary and fought in World War II & Korea where he was wounded from hostile fire and recieved a Purple Heart. He was stationed for a period of time in Kyoto Japan, where he climbed Mt. Fuji. His time in Japan made a lasting impression on him and he often reflected on how beautiful it was there and his desire to return some day.
After fighting in the Korean War he was stationed at Fort Benning Georgia. One weekend he decided to use his weekend pass to go to Hickory, Mississippi to visit his brother Harold, it was during this visit that he met Virginia Marie Snowden.
