Life Story
Florence passed away on Friday, December 31st at a Portland, Oregon care facility. Surrounded by family, she died peacefully in her sleep from an age related illness. She was 95.
She was born in San Diego in 1915 to Alfred Leroy and Florence Peirce Stockton and she grew up in Daly City, California where her family owned and operated the A.L. Stockton Lumber Company on Mission Street. She attended Balboa High School and UC Berkley before leaving school to work for the army during WWII. She spent a good part of the war in Fairbanks Alaska and often said it was the best time of her life. In 1945, she married Lieutenant William K. Finney of the Army Air Corps., whom she had met at a Sacramento army base. After the war, they settled in San Bruno and then later Burlingame, California where they raised three daughters.
