Andrew Koenig Found Dead in Vancouver, B.C.

Andrew KoenigAndrew Koenig, perhaps better known as “Boner” from the 1980s TV series Growing Pains, was found dead in a wooded park in Vancouver, B.C. on Thursday. He was 41.

Koenig, the son of Star Trek‘s Lt. Pavel Chekov, Walter Koenig, has reportedly taken his own life. His parents reported him missing when he did not return to Los Angeles after visiting friends in Vancouver earlier this month.

His body was found in Vancouver’s 1000-acre Stanley Park, and police believe no one else was involved in Koenig’s death, noting the investigation has been turned over to the coroner.

Reportedly, Koenig suffered from depression. In a statement Thursday, his father urged those with depression to “talk to somebody.”

Best known for his role as Mike Seaver’s (Kirk Cameron) best friend Boner, Koenig also appeared on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and other series, worked as a film editor, and wrote and directed short films.

Andrew, you are and will forever be missed. Thank you for your activism and your compassion. Oh how I wish you had spoken out to someone before you took your own life. If anyone reading this is contemplating suicide, call someone, anyone, and talk to them. You can call a crisis hotline and just talk – they don’t have to come to you but they will come and talk to you if you will let them. I wish I had gotten to know Andrew, we have so many things in common; veganism and the wish for peace for the Tibetan monks, being two of them. Just know our thoughts will always be with you Andrew. May you find peace in the next realm.
