Baby Boomers: Are you ready for your funeral?
Last weekend, Portland hosted the Baby Boomer Lifestyle Expo. Among the vendors selling products and services like wine, chiropractic care, and retirement communities, were retailers offering cremation and burial services, according to The Oregonian.
Apparently, Boomers are the target market for many of these funeral services. With funeral costs continuing to rise, it’s become necessary for people to give serious thought and planning as to how they will finance their own deaths. Some numbers put the average cost of a North American funeral near $10,000. Can you imagine leaving such a financial burden on your family when you’ve gone?
Thankfully, strategically thinking about the inevitability of death is becoming more accepted in our culture today, and many resources and services are being made available, including Valley of Life’s new two-volume Funeral Preplanning Guide that is set to be released in early March.
The guide is a perfect resource for Baby Boomers looking for guidance on burial options, legal options, wills, and other related issues. Funeral preplanning is quickly becoming an absolute necessity, and we encourage everyone not to wait until it’s too late.
Forget any reservations or presuppositions you may have about addressing your own death — it’s like any other responsibility you have in life. Furthermore, consider your foresight to be the last act of love you leave with your family and friends.
