Can Sympathy Flowers Be Too Happy For a Funeral Service?

Many of us want to do whatever it takes to make someone happy during a time of loss. The awkwardness of the time and the difficulty in finding the right words to say make it easy to find other ways to spread merriment. Many worry that the flowers they have sent for a funeral service or memorial are too bright or too garish for the circumstances. However, experts say this is not something we should worry about.

A funeral or memorial service is a celebration of someone’s life and a time to honor what they stood for and what they did. Bright, colorful arrangements are a great part in that celebration. They add beauty to sometimes less than beautiful surroundings. They also provide a comforting distraction to those that are struggling with finding something to talk about or look at during the service. Pastels are traditional colors for women and autumn, earth-tones are popular for men but any color is appropriate if it is sent with love and with the deceased or family in mind. If you are looking for some symbolism in the colors you choose, white is sent often for funeral services because it stands for peace.

Send what is meaningful to you. Send what you believe the deceased would have enjoyed. Send what embodies the love and encouragement you hope to share with the family.
