Former Dog Trainer Founds Military Working Dog Memorial

U.S. dogs do more for their country’s citizens than they will ever know. The United States Armed Forces has trained canines to serve as working dogs since World War I to assist those fighting in the most dangerous situations. As a result, numerous dogs have died while serving and protecting the U.S.

Daughter’s Legacy Lives in a Documentary

Eating disorders are one of the most misunderstood, treatable diseases that take the lives of those plagued with low self-esteem and emotional disturbances. Melissa Arvin died last year at the age of 19 from bulimia nervosa, an eating disorder characterized by binge eating and purging. Her mother, Judy; father, William; and older brother, Andrew, survive her.

9/11 Memorial and Museum Receives $2.29 Million

The National September 11 Memorial and Museum recently received a $2.29 million donation from the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation to help fund its exhibits, including the “Introductory Exhibition.” The museum will feature recordings from September 11, 2001 survivors who agreed to share their experiences. These stories will serve to demonstrate how the world reacted to the attacks.

Run for Hope

OUR HOUSE, a grief support center in southern California, is hosting the annual Run for Hope on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the West L.A. Farmers Market. This fun run gives children and adults a chance to honor those who have died. Today is the last day to register for the run.

Early Chinese Settlers Get a Proper Burial

The remains of some of the United State’s earliest Chinese settlers will finally have a chance to be laid to rest next month after five years of uncertainty.  Their original graves were unearthed during the construction of a light rail line in east Los Angeles sparking years of debate and discussion over how best to honor them.  Now, these early immigrants have been honored with a memorial wall at Evergreen Cemetery in LA, the cemetery where their remains will be laid to rest.
