Coroner Updates Casey Johnson’s Cause of Death
The Los Angeles county coroner released a brief statement yesterday concerning the January death of heiress Casey Johnson. When Johnson, the daughter of New York Jets’ owner Woody Johnson, died on January 4, her passing was cited as a “natural death.” According to the coroner’s statement, the cause of death was diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition caused by a lack of insulin and very high blood sugar.
Johnson was an insulin-dependent diabetic since her childhood. In fact, her father co-authored a book about raising a diabetic child called, “Managing Your Child’s Diabetes.” Additionally, Johnson’s father has set up a memorial fund for her through the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, an organization for which he is chairman.
Johnson, 30, was heir to the famous Johnson & Johnson empire, and is said to have lived a “party life.” She has been a constant source for celebrity news and gossip. For instance, in December, she announced her engagement to bisexual reality TV star Tila Tequila.
On January 12, Johnson was laid to rest at her family’s New Jersey estate. Tequila was not invited to the funeral, and is said to be seeking custody of Johnson’s adopted 3-year-old daughter, Ava. Ava is currently being cared for by Johnson’s mother.
