Elizabeth Taylor Dies at 79

Fashion icon and legendary beauty Elizabeth Taylor died peacefully today at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, her publicist announced. She was 79.

Taylor, an two-time Oscar-winning actress and style maven, was hospitalized six weeks ago with congestive heart failure. “Though she had recently suffered a number of complications, her condition had stabilized and it was hoped that she would be able to return home. Sadly, this was not to be,” her publicist told CNN.

Hailed in her prime as one of the world’s most desirable women, Taylor was known as much for her jet-set lifestyle and many husbands as for her memorable roles in films such as Cleopatra, Butterfield 8 and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. She was also a champion for charitable causes, including the battle against AIDS.
