Green Funeral Planning – Biodegradable Coffins Becoming Popular in US


The Natural Burial Company in Portland, Oregon is now selling a variety of eco-friendly burial products aimed at preserving the earth and our overall environment. The company, which just opened this week, is happy to be selling Ecopods, kayak shaped coffins made out of recycled newspapers. This coffin is one of many new biodegradable coffins now available on the market. Coffins associated with “natural” burials must not require formaldehyde embalming, cement vaults, chemical lawn treatments or laminated caskets.

Eco-friendly or “natural” burials are becoming more popular in the U.S. “Green” cemeteries are now located in California, Florida, New York, South Caroline and Texas. More and more individuals are looking to personalize their end-of-life planning by making a contribution back into the earth rather than causing additional strain.

Ask your funeral arranger about eco-friendly burial options as you make your or a family members funeral plans. “Natural caskets” are primarily made overseas but many US companies, like Natural Burial Company, are importing the products for US consumers and we can only expect that US products will be showing up soon.
