Hitchcock Actress Laraine Day Passes Away
Laraine Day, the U.S. actress who appeared in the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Foreign Correspondent in addition to over 50 other films, passed away on at the age of 87.
Laraine died of natural causes at her daughter’s home in Utah, where she moved following the death of her husband of 47 years, Michel Grilikhes. Laraine was born and raised in Utah. Her memorial service will take place at Forest Lawn in California.
Laraine was known most notably for her role as Dr. Kildare’s nurse in the movies about the character. Her career spanned several decades and included a number of high profile roles in movies with Cary Grant, Joel McCrea and John Wayne.
Because of her earlier marriage to Hall of Fame manager Leo Durocher, Day also became known as the “first lady of baseball.” She started a 15-minute TV pregame show interviewing New York Giant players. She really was a pioneer for woman in the world of sports broadcasting.
In her later years, Day became a founding member of SHARE, a charity for women and children suffering from developmental disabilities. In lieu of funeral floral arrangements, the family is asking that donations be sent to SHARE, Inc.
