Holiday Grief Support Groups Will Help

The holidays are a trying time for anyone who has lost a loved one this year or years ago.  The joy of the holidays feels heavy in the shadows of death.  Many find that they feel guilty for being happy when the season comes around knowing that their loss is great.

Holiday Support Groups can help.

Find a group of people that can share in your complex set of feelings this time of year.  Groups like the Mt. Hood Hospice of Sandy are sponsoring free or small fee groups all over the United States established to provide an outlet for feelings and bereavement.

“The holiday season can be a difficult time for people grieving the death of a loved one,” said bereavement coordinator and meeting facilitator of Mt. Hood Hospice of Sandy, Emilie Cartoun.  “Whether it has been months or years since your loss, the group can provide a supportive environment to help you develop coping skills.”

If you are in need of some grief support this Thanksgiving, Christmas or Hanukkah, talk to your doctor about getting a support group recommendation or speak with your local hospice care or area church.  Online support groups can also help.  Many feel the pain of loss this time of year - find a group of people that can help you work through it.
