Hollywood Ambassador Johnny Grant Passes Away


Johnny Grant, honorary Hollywood mayor know for his years of promoting and cheerleading the greatness of the area, passed away on Wednesday, January 9 at the age of 84. He was found dead in a Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel room where he lived. Natural causes are the apparent cause of death.

Those of us not in California may not recognize Grant’s name but you may recognize his face. He participated in over 500 celebrity inductions into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was known for his smile, happy demeanor, and his general love of Hollywood. He hosted red carpet arrivals at the Oscars in addition to his Walk of Fame parties and produced the Hollywood annual Christmas Parade.

During the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he joined Bob Hope as a USO ambassador. Angie Dickinson once said of Grant, “”You’ll never find a more generous soul in your life. He was a ladies’ man. He’s a Taurus. He’s a doll.”
