Honoring Our Freedom-Fighters

Independence DayFor many Americans, July 4th is a day of celebration. Yet, for others, it is another reminder of loved ones lost in service to our country. Like Memorial Day or Veterans Day, our Independence Day not only celebrates the freedoms we have here in the United States of America, but it also honors those who founded and fought for those freedoms.

Amidst all the flags, food, and fireworks today, make some time to honor a veteran or someone who is currently serving in the military. It could be as easy as saying “thank you” to a veteran you meet today — many veterans also greatly appreciate sharing their story with people who genuinely listen. You could send a letter or package to someone you know serving abroad in the military. Or, perhaps, you could visit a national or state cemetary to pay your respects to those who died serving our country.

Valley of Life has a number of resources for honoring veterans. Visit our Veterans page for more information.

Don’t let the day pass by without both celebrating our freedom and honoring someone who gave it to you. Have a happy and safe Fourth of July!
