How You Can Comfort Grieving Children
How many kids do you know? If you are a parent or guardian, teacher or childcare provider, aunt or uncle, big brother or sister, chances are you have contact with at least one child in some capacity. Did you know before that child turns 18, he or she has a 1 in 5 chance of losing someone close? As a person of influence in that child’s life, are you adequately prepared to support him or her through such a difficult time?
Thankfully, Valley of Life has a resource to help. Miri Rossitto, founder and creator of Valley of Life, recently published an ebook called A Guide to Children and Grief. This guide is intended to stand in the gap between a child’s grief and an adult’s ability to effectively help. Not only does Rossitto’s ebook tell you what you need to know (such as the different ways in which a child grieves), it also details what things you can do to help. For instance, one section of the book provides specific statements to avoid expressing to a child as well as words that would be appropriate and helpful to share.
The book even provides a helpful guide to locating additional resources. You can request to preview a chapter of the book for free. Just look for the link on Valley of Life’s home page.
If you care about the children in your life, be sure to have this resource at your disposal. Life is not without its fair share of difficult circumstances; make sure you’re prepared to help our precious ones face them.
