How You Can Honor the Victims of 9/11

WTC

World Trade Center, (pre-9/11/01)

With September 11 drawing closer, I was wondering how best to honorably commemorate the day when the twin towers of the World Trade Center were attacked. Last week, someone pointed me to Project 2,996. The project is a tribute to the 2,996 victims of 9/11 through the medium of blogging.

The endeavor started in 2006, and saw more than 3,000 bloggers pay tribute to the victims by blogging about their lives, not those who took them. The organizer, Dale Chaneller Roe, is passionate about drawing attention away from the antagonists of 9/11 and giving it to those who deserve to be remembered.

If you’d like to be a part of Project 2,996 by pledging to write about a victim, you can request a name on the Project 2,996 web site. Dale will assign you a name to research and write about, and then you post your tribute to your blog or website on this coming September 11. There are even examples of what people have written in the past so the task doesn’t seem so daunting.

At the very least, I would encourage you to mark the day in some fashion. Whether you’re a blogger, artist, musician, plumber, lawyer, doctor — whatever — find a way that you can best honor our brothers and sisters who lost their lives.

Valley of Life is honored to be a part of this endeavor; look for our tribute on September 11.
