John Daly, Film Producer
The Oscar winning producer of such great films as The Last Emperor and Platoon passed away on Friday, October 31, 2008. John Daly died of cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at the age of 71. Daly won 13 Academy Awards (as well as several other Golden Globes and other awards) during his lifetime making him one of the great movie producers of the 20th century.
Daly was the Chairman of Film and Music Entertainment Inc. and has been credited with launching the careers of some of the best directors in Hollywood today, including Oliver Stone, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Robert Altman. He also helped start the careers of Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves and Julia Roberts. The films he helped make have become defining films to a generation of movie goers. We all owe much to Mr. Daly’s talents and vision for cinema.
