John Forsythe of “Dynasty” dies of cancer
John Forsythe, an actor known for his roles on TV’s Dynasty and Charlie’s Angels, died late Thursday due to complications relating to his battle with cancer. Forsythe was 92 years old.
Forsythe began his acting career in theater and with a couple of movie roles in the 1940s. While serving during World War II, he performed in “Winged Victory,” a Moss Hart Air Force show. He later went on to become a founding member of the Actor’s Studio before joining Aaron Spelling’s Charlie’s Angels cast as the voice of Charlie in 1976. He teamed up with Spelling again in the popular TV series Dynasty, in which Forsythe was cast as oil tycoon Blake Carrington.
Born “John Lincoln Freund” on Jan. 29, 1918, in Penn’s Grove, N.J., Forsythe was known for his courteous, humble nature. He was a well-liked actor of recognized talent who did not concern himself with being in the spotlight. Forsythe was married twice and had three children. The Associated Press reports: “In lieu of flowers, Forsythe’s family asked that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. The family said there will be no public service.”
