Major League Pitcher Joe Kennedy Dead at Age 28
Major League baseball pitcher Joe Kennedy died suddenly on Friday while at his home in Florida. He was only 28 years old. It is speculated that the cause of death was a brain aneurysm or a heart attack. Joe was a nationally recognized pitcher who spent his career pitching for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics, Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays.
Joe was born in La Mesa, CA and grew up playing a number of sports including basketball and football in addition to baseball. He attended Grossmont Junior College before entering the Major League draft. He started in the majors in May of 2001 with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He pitched 72 consecutive starts before suffering an arm injury in 2003 and was traded to the Rockies. He spent the next few years pitching starts or from the bull pen for the Athletics, Diamondbacks and Blue Jays. He became a free agent at the end of the 2007 season.
His death shocked many because of his apparent good physical health and youthfulness. Many are grieving the loss of this great baseball star. You can read an In Memory Tribute to Joe Kennedy written by Ken Arneson at Catfish Stew.
