Mel Ferrer, Actor & Producer
Actor Mel Ferrer, star of classic movies like “War and Peace” and “The Sun Also Rises” passed away in Santa Barbara at the age of 90. Well-known as a former husband of Audrey Hepburn, Ferrer had many starring roles in the 1950s one of the most highly-acclaimed as a disabled carnival puppeteer in “Lili.” He later left acting for work he loved more, directing and producing.
Ferrer was born in Elberon, New Jersey in August of 1917 to a Cuban-born doctor and a socialite mother. He later went on to attend Princeton University and became intrigued by writing; he started writing plays, children’s books and novels before becoming an actor. Ferrer was married to Hepburn from 1954 to 1968. His wife, 4 sons and 2 daughters along with several grandchildren now survive him.
