Miss MoneyPenny Passes Away


Lois Maxwell, the Canadian-born actress most well-known for her role as Miss Moneypenny, M’s smitten secretary in the 007 movies, died of cancer this weekend in Australia. She was 80.

Lois played Miss Moneypenny through 14 of the blockbuster movies, starting in 1962 with Dr. No. She also worked opposite Ronald Reagan in Bedtime for Bonzo and was in Stanley Kubrick’s classic, Lolita. She starred in That Hagen Girl with Shirley Temple where she earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Newcomer.

Lois start in showbiz goes back to when she was 15 and ran away from home to enlist with the Royal Canadian Army. She ended up in the Army Entertainment Corps performing for the European troops during WWII. She then entered the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts where she met Roger Moore (the future Mr. Bond). She eventually ended up in Hollywood and was given the Miss Moneypenny role for which she was so well-known.
