MTV Game Show Host Ken Ober dies
Ken Ober, game show host and producer, was found dead in his California home on Sunday. Ober’s manager, Lee Kernis, said that Ober complained of a headache and flu-like symptoms on Saturday. However, the cause of death has yet to be determined. He was 52.
Ober, most known for his days as the host of MTV’s “Remote Control,” a 1980s game show which featured contestants in lounge chairs answering questions. “‘Remote Control,’ in all its fearless goofiness,” Kurt Loder writes, ”was a game show so far ahead of its time that TV land still hasn’t caught up with it.” The show ran for five seasons and saw the likes of comedians Adam Sandler, Colin Quinn, and Denis Leary.
In fact, upon hearing of Ober’s death, Leary remarked that Ober ”was and always will be the quickest wit in the room.”
After “Remote Control,” Ober went on to help produce television shows like “Mind of Mencia” and “The New Adventures of Old Christine.”
Ober, born in Massachusetts, was originally named Ken Oberding. He is survived by both parents and a brother.
