New Book Addresses Grief and Coping After Child’s Death
Ann Hood never thought she would help so many women when she began writing her new book Comfort: a Journey Through Grief. The true story relays Hood’s path of coping with the sudden loss of her child and the ways she dealt with her grief. In April 2002, her daughter Grace died from a virulent form of strep. The loss left her in a state of overwhelming despair. She found her way toward life again by taking up knitting.
“There are repetitive tasks – jogging, swimming, gardening, and knitting – that really lower your heart rate and slow your pulse,” said Hood.
Her book tour for Comfort has been “part of an evolution in the grief journey” she has said and the impact it has had on others has given her strength to talk about her pain and loss in hndreds of cities. Her overarching message to those that have lost a child – “There’s no rule book. You have got to do it your way.”
