Portland Girls Remembered By Friends After Shooting Tragedy
The city of Portland, Oregon has been stunned the last few days after a teenager shot into a crowd of teenagers outside of a under-age club in downtown. The gunman killed two girls and wounded seven others before taking his own life on the city streets. It was a devastating turn of events for a city known for its helpful and peaceful citizens. The tragedy is made much greater by the loss of two beautiful girls – Martha Paz De Noboa and Ashley Wilks.
Martha Paz De Noboa was a foreign exchange student from Pgeru who was spending the year goin to Columbia High School in White Salmon, Washington. De Noboa was downtown dancing with her fellow foreign exchange students while others at the high school were celebrating their winter formal dance. De Noboa came to the America to improve her English and expand her cultural knowledge of the U.S. She had never played in the snow until the recent snow storm before the Christmas holiday. Her host family was devastated to have to talk to her family at home.
Ashley Wilks was loved by her friends for her warmth and kindness. She was downtown celebrating a friend’s birthday when the gunman took her life. Ashley was a student at Clackamas High School. Clackamas High School was planning a celebration of Ashley Wilks’ life today and counselor’s are on hand for students that need to talk through their grief.
Two young girls killed in the prime of their life. The tragedy is unthinkable and the community is reeling over how this could have happened.

What a small world this is. The internet continues to come through to bridge gaps in communication, link people together for common causes, loves and sadness. Friends of Marth “Tika” Paz De Noboa have set up an online memorial in her honor. Her friends from Peru, who know live in Colorado, along with her host sister in Washington have created a site to honor the young woman who was tragically struck down last week. Visit this heartfelt site that brings people from all over the world together to mourn and celebrate a life gone too soon.
