Recognizing the Warning Signs of Strokes Could Save Your Life or That of Your Loved One
Strokes are the third largest cause of deaths, behind heart disease and all forms of cancer. More startling is that strokes are also the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the U.S. There are a number of signs that can signal that you have had or are having a stroke. These signs include:
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden, severe headache with no known cause
Scientists are becoming more aware that timing is of the essence when it comes to stroke recovery. The Body of Knowledge video (link below) from CNN and sponsored by the National Stroke Association outlines the latest science has to offer on stroke recovery and how you can ensure you or your loved ones don’t suffer long-term effects of a stroke.
