Rest In Peace Bea Arthur

bea_arthurBea Arthur, the extraordinary actress that brought us so many beloved TV and Broadway characters, died on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the age of 86.  She had been battling an undisclosed cancer for quite some time.  Arthur was best known for playing dry-witted Italian Dorothy Zbornak in the 1980s TV sitcom, The Golden Girls and Maude Findlay in the 1970s sitcom Maude.

Bea Arthur’s career started on the Broadway stage, getting critical acclaim for her 1964 performance in Fiddler on the Roof and her 1966 performance in Mame. In fact, she didn’t even start acting on TV until she was fifty, when she appeared on All in the Family.  Her performance was so captivating, it landed her her own show (Maude). She was a warm and caring person who garnered so much respect from those she worked with. Her family, her friends and her fans are sure to miss her.
