Richard Wright, Keyboardist
Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright passed away on Monday, September 15, 2008 at the age of 65 due to cancer. Wright was the keyboardist with the widely popular and generationally monumental rock band, Pink Floyd. Wright also worked on the improvisatory studio work the band composed and sang vocals on a few of the bands songs.
“In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick’s enormous input was frequently forgotten. He was gentle, unassuming and private, but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognized Pink Floyd sound,” said Pink Floyd guitarist and singer David Gilmour on Monday.
Wright taught himself to play the keyboard as a child in London. He met Roger Waters and Nick Mason while studying architecture at the Regent Street Polytechnic College and soon started a band. Syd Barrett joined the trio in 1965 and they became known as Pink Floyd.
His talents are certainly a major loss to the world of music. Luckily he leaves a legacy of powerful music for generations to come.
