Singing Cowboy Monte Hale Passes Away
Monte Hale was tall, dark and handsome. The combo made him perfect for the most popular westerns made during the 1940s and 50s. Monte Hale starred in some of the great western pictures including The Big Bonanza, Home on the Range, Out California Way, and Giant with James Dean. Sadly, Monte Hale passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at his home after battling an unnamed lengthy illness. He was 89 years old.
Hale, along with Gene Autry, founded the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, a part of the Autry National Center of the American West.
