This weekend, Portland lost a man of the community and a voice of the city, Mr. Les Sarnoff. The KINK FM disc jockey succumbed to late-stage melanoma on Friday, April 17, 2009 at Providence Medical Center. Les was the calming voice I would listen to in the morning on my commute, a pleasant change from the crazy antics of the morning crews of other stations. He was matter-of-fact and mellow in his delivery but a true lover of music in a variety of veins. For 22 years he was the morning host on the funky, new light alternative station. His passing is being felt by the entire area.
