Wayman Tisdale, 44, died yesterday morning after a two-year bout with cancer. The three-time Oklahoma all-American played 12 seasons in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings, and Phoenix Suns. At 6′9”, the forward averaged 15.3 points a game and was a dominant presence on the court. A fan-favorite, Tisdale also won gold as a member of the U.S. basketball team at the 1984 Olympics.
Chuck Daly, hall of fame coach for the Detroit Pistons, died today at age 78. He died in Jupiter, Florida, and was able to spend his last moments with his family. Daly led the Pistons to back-to-back NBA championships in 1989 and 1990. The Pistons eventually retired the number 2 jersey in honor of the titles and Daly’s acheivements.
Former center for the Portland Trail Blazers, Kevin Duckworth, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2008 at the age of 44 due to heart disease. Duckworth was on a trip on the Oregon Coast to host a free basketball clinic when he died.
