To Our Veterans: Thank You!
As many of us pause today to remember all the brave soldiers who have valiantly served our country, Valley of Life wants to extend a heart-felt thank you to all that have fallen and still serve to protect this great country.
Amidst your comings and goings today, make some time to honor a veteran. It could be as easy as saying “thank you” to a veteran you meet today — many veterans also greatly appreciate sharing their story with people who genuinely listen — you could send a letter, or perhaps you could visit a national or state cemetery to pay your respects to those who died serving our country.
Additionally, we thought it appropriate to remind the family members of deceased veterans the burial honors their loved ones are eligible to receive. For instance, the United States Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) makes a number of significant benefits available to deceased veterans as well as their family members.
Valley of Life also has a number of resources for honoring veterans. For more information, visit our Veteran Resources page.
On May 13, 1938, the 11th of November of each year was made a legal holiday, said to be “a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as ‘Armistice Day’.” In 1954, Armistice Day was later expanded to include any veteran from any war (as it originally only honored WWI veterans) and renamed “Veterans Day.”
