Voice of Mickey Mouse Dies
Wayne Allwine, who voiced Walt Disney’s original cartoon character Mickey Mouse for 32 years, died last week. His wife, the actress who voiced Minnie Mouse, was by his side. He was 62.
The Walt Disney Compay said Allwine died from complications of his diabetes.
Allwine started working for Disney in the mailroom in 1966. Ten years later, he was the voice of Mickey Mouse. He was the third person to voice Mickey, following Walt Disney himself and Jimmy MacDonald.
Allwine is often quoted as saying: “Mickey’s the real star. You know you just have to love the little guy while you have him, because he won’t be yours forever.”
Allwine also won an Emmy Award in 1986 for sound editing on the NBC series “Amazing Stories.”
