Young Runner dies in Baltimore Marathon
During the Baltimore Marathon on Saturday, 23-year-old Peter Curtin collapsed near mile 25 of the foot race. Aides from a nearby medical station along the route immediately rushed to help him, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to revive him.
Curtin was transported to a nearby hospital where further attempts to provide medical aid were unsuccessful. The entire incident lasted just under two hours, with doctors pronouncing Curtin dead shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday. The cause of death has yet to be released.
The incident marks only the second death in the marathon’s history of nine years.
Curtin was a Princeton graduate (2008) and was currently attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) pursuing a degree in inorganic chemistry. A brilliant student, Curtin was the recipient of a number of awards and fellowships.
A memorial service has been scheduled for October 25 at Princeton University’s chapel.
Additionally, Curtin’s family established a memorial fund to support undergraduates in the Princeton chemistry department. You can send donations to:
