I was wondering if people here have had someone close to them attempt suicide.
Last year my sister-in-law's stepson ended his life at the age of 22. It was a shock to us, but apparently he had made a previous attempt. Of course it's still very difficult for his father.
Does anyone here have a way of helping people who may be at risk of attempting suicide?

I tried several times to take my own life when I was younger. Now that I have my daughter of course, things are different.
Honestly many who are suicidal hide the way they feel. Once you know how a person feels there is a lot you can do, but till then, not really.

I have a hard time dealing with suicide and grieving about it. It angers me sometimes but I Try to read into it a bit deeper so that way I can some how try to connect my feelings with the person who has either done it and or has tried to do it but I don't understand. It takes a lot for you to want to take your own life.

Honestly you don't want to understand. I think to understand, you have to have been there at some point in your life, and you should honestly be grateful for the fact that you haven't. It's a good thing!

I must say that that makes a lot of sense. I think that there really isn't any understanding when it comes to that subject. IT all takes us by surprise when it happens.

Often it takes the person who tries to kill themselves by surprise too. It has often been said that the ones who think about it a long time will not do it. It is the ones who seem fine on the outside that are more likely to try; one day they seem fine to you, then suddenly their situation becomes too much for them to cope with and they are gone a day later.

Yep, it is something that happens quickly to us but It wasn't too quick to them I'm sure. This isn't something that just pops up with them.I think that it is something that is dwelled on for a while.

Actually Sacback you would be surprised at how frequently that is not the case. The more people think about doing it, often they find reasons not to do it. The ones that most often succeed are those who attempt it on the spur of the moment from what I have read.

There are some signs to look out for. Severe depression in itself is not enough. Most people know when to stop. Some of us just don't. It's just important to be conscious of someone's pain.

Sometimes its hard to feel or see this type of pain. Alot of people hide this and thats where the surprise comes in at.

My uncle just killed hisself and we thought he was so happy. He never came off to be sad or depressed of any nature. So when he did this, it was a shock to me and my family.

It is so funny to me how I notice that alot of people have so much to say about suicide which is far from being exceptable but in turn have scuh a problem with abortions. It boggles my mind. I went through this forum and looke d at people's posts and who and where they posted and it doesn't make any sense to me at all.

I have noticed that as well. We make excuses for people taken their own lives but there is no excuse for abortions? That is kind of hypocritcal but then again you have to think of it as, you are the one taking your own life. Ad\bortions is you taking someone elses.

I believe strongly that it is a sin like no other though. You shouldn't have the right and you don't have tthe right to take your own life.
